July Ride Location Hampered by Local Fires!!
Because of the American River Complex fires in the Forest Hill Divide
area, the July VTR Ride at Morning Star Resort will be limited in scope.
According to early reports from Mike Orr on Tursday evening, the road to
Foresthill was signed 'Open only to local residents' and 'No camping at
Sugar Pine'. However, when called on Friday morning, the staff at
Morning Star said a lot of smoke was in the area but their resort
was open. Due to the fire, there is no access to trails 5 and 6.
The fire is just beyond Elliot Ranch Road on the South side of the Forest
Hill Divide Road and the smoke level is high even in Auburn. According
to the OES Website, the fire started on 6/21/2008 and is about 20%
contained with 18,019 acres burned as of 7:47AM this morning.
For more information on this, and other California fires, here is a link
to the OES Interactive Fire Map. Select the American River Complex Link
and zoom in for information on, and the detailed location of, this fire.
Mike will be sending out more information via email after he contacts
Morning Star Resort.

location for this month's ride was set to Niagra at Barn Meadow.
Note: As of Sep 5, 2:30 PM, campfires are permitted in
designated fire-rings at Barn Meadow. Bring firewood.
Niagra is located off of hiway 108. The Niagra exit off of hiway 108 is
marked with a sign to Eagle Meadow & Niagra and is route number 5N01.
It is a right turn, approximately 14.4 miles past the Summit Ranger
Station (also the exit for Pinecrest) one-half mile past mile marker 44.
The camp location will be at Barn Meadow, about 5.8 miles in from hiway 108.

August ride will be at the Pine Nuts
Area near Minden, NV
The ride location for the August 11&12, weekend ride has
been set to the Pine Nuts Mts Area, near Minden, NV.
At the Tuesday VTR meeting, there were only two people who
indicated that they were going to ride this weekend. As the
destination
for the ride was, up until then, undecided, they opted
for an exploratory ride near Minden, NV, in the Pine Nuts area.
Others are welcome to join in on this adventure. If you are at all
interested, please contact either Jack Schreiber or Mike Orr by
Thursday evening – at the latest – for information on the ride
location, etc.

July "Coast Ride" Changed to an "Inland" Ride
at the 6/5/2007 Meeting
The ride location for the July 7&8 weekend ride has
been set to the Morning Star Resort at Big Reservoir near Foresthill.
To get to the resort, follow the usual directions to the Foresthill
Sugarpine
Staging
Area – but then continue straight on the road,
without
turning in to the
Staging Area, for about a mile. Watch
for
signs and a paved road to the right that leads to the resort.
Morning Star is a resort campground right in the middle of the OHV trail
network at Foresthill. They have a man made lake, warm water showers,
a small on-site store,
a beach
volleyball court and an RV dump station.
They stock the lake with
fish and you pay a resort fishing fee rather than
needing a fishing license.
There are no power boats allowed on the lake,
only inflatable boats, canoes
and
kayaks. They have paddle boats to rent
as well. There are no hook ups – it
is
strictly dry camping for your RV.
We can purchase firewood if we don't
bring our own.
We can NOT start a motorcycle, quad or
chain saw in the park.
We will have to push or transport our bikes out of the park to use them.
This does not apply to street licensed bikes. You can ride early before it
gets too warm, come back and swim or float, try some fishing, or maybe
even some volleyball, and then go back for a late afternoon ride when it
cools down a little.
Please contact Mike Orr as soon as possible if you are planning to attend.

Area sign, do not turn right into the camping area, but continue
straight up the road approximately 0.2 miles to a wide clearing.

Presidents Dinner Update 4/4/2007
To all VTR members and guests planning on going to the President's
Dinner on Saturday, April 7th at the Casa Orozco in Livermore.
Bill Smith has been informed that, contrary to what he was told before and
what
was implied below,
the restaurant will NOT be issuing separate checks.
They will be putting
all of the dinners, including the tax and tip, on one tab.
In order for things to go as smoothly as possible, and to minimize
the
after
dinner confusion, he requests that we all do the following:
– Bring enough cash to cover the drinks and the dinners that you order.
– Pay for the drinks as you order them so they aren't included in
the combined dinner tab.
– Try to remember what you ordered for dinner.
We will have a calculator on hand to assist in the process of figuring out
what everybody owes...
!! Presidents Dinner & Ride Date Update 3/17/2007 !!
Due to a conflict between our regular ride date scheduled for April
and
the Easter holiday weekend,
the club decided to delay the ride
weekend
for the Georgetown ride by
one week to the 14th and 15th
of April. A Treasure hunt will be staged. Those parents, with kids that
will participate in the hunt, should bring some goodies to find.
For questions, e-mail
John Fry or call 925-634-8647.
The President's Dinner will be held at the Casa Orozco in Livermore
on Saturday, April 7th at 7PM. The restaurant is located at 325
South L Street. You will be able to order from the menu and you
will be responsible for your own tab for drinks and your meal. Please
try
and join us for a nice night of honoring John for his efforts as
President of our great club, and have some fun doing it. Please let
Bill Smith know, via e-mail or by calling 707-422-8003, if you are
planning on attending so that he can make sure the restaurant
provides enough seating.
The club trail maintenance day at Stonyford will remain Saturday
the 21st. For questions, e-mail Bill Smith or call 707-422-8003.
